The research future concerns are basically what information to we evaluate andwhat do we do with the information.  With the research portion, communitypolicing is still in its infant stage and so the data is changing all the timeand what happens now can change the future as well.  One of the mainthings that have been identified is how the leadership or management of theprogram is evaluated as well as the performance.  Collection of good dataand consistent data will enable departments to evaluate the successes andopportunities and allow for change to correct or improve the service to thecommunity.

The main problem for the future is the same one we have today and that isimplementation of the community policing strategy.  With our country, eachneighborhood is different and the make up is not the same either.  So itis hard to create a cookie cutter model that can be used in alldepartments.  It takes research and local influence to create the rightprocess.  There must be a leader who is dedicated and a clear vision laidout to follow.  As we continue to implement community policing, similaritiescan be identified and we can learn from successes and failures.  It willjust need to be handled by each department on a one on one basis  (Oliver,2008).

The change at the officer level for community policing will be great in myopinion.  The stereotype police duties will be no more and you will needofficers with special skills or certification to help implement communitypolicing.  This could even be having different educational degrees orspecialized certifications.  How to build community morale and how to dealwith a impoverished community could be a couple of special skills needed forthe future community oriented police officers.  As the officers becomemore integrated in the community, they will have to master special skills to helpdeal with the problems of their community.
